Basic English Sentence Structures: Declarative Sentences-Part 1
Apr 24, 2023There are a variety of ways (maneras) to write English sentences correctly. One way follows (sigue) the structure below (abajo):
Subject + Verb + Preposition + Article + Noun
Select a Subject
A subject (sujeto) is who or what a sentence is about. Here are some possible subjects:
- The woman (La mujer)
- A dog (Un perro)
- Yellow flowers (Las flores amarillas)
- Cars (Los carros)
Select a Verb
A verb tells what the subject is or the action of the subject. Here are some possible verbs:
- walks (camina)
- barks (ladra)
- are (están)
- drive (circulan)
Select a Preposition
A preposition tells the location or the direction of a person, place, or thing. Some possible prepositions are:
- to (a)
- at (a)
- in (dentro de)
- down (por)
Select an Article and a Noun
An article is one of the following words: a, an, the. A noun (sustantivo) is a person, place, or thing.
- the park. / a park. (el parque / un parque)
- the truck. / a truck (la camioneta; una camioneta)
- the vase. / a vase (el florero; un florero)
- the road. / a road (la carretera; una carretera)
Write Complete Sentences
- The woman walks to the park. / La mujer camina al parque.
- A dog barks at the truck. / Un perro ladra a una camioneta.
- Yellow flowers are in the vase. / Las flores amarillas están en el florero.
- Cars drive down the road. / Los carros conducen por la carretera.
